The Wine Front, Gary Walsh

Félicette Grenache Rouge 2016

Here’s a good and tasty drink. Cherry, raspberry, a floral perfume and something you might call ‘ferrous’. It’s light to medium bodied, fresh and playful, delivering bright raspberry fruit with light tannin, and something of a peanut and dried herb aftertaste. I like it a lot.

Mont Rocher Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2015

Carignan is a wonderful grape, especially if it comes from old vines. Here’s berries, that ash and scrub herb perfume that’s so typical, and a touch of vanilla. Medium bodied, quite juicy, even into sweetness here, I feel, but that herb and lavender stuff keeps it on the straight and narrow – more or less. It’s pretty good to drink.

Mont Rocher Malbec Vieilles Vignes 2015

Tastes more of the South of France than it does Malbec, though that’s no bad thing. Red berries, plum, dried herb and scrub perfume, a slight whiff of vanilla. Medium bodied, dried herb meets berries in a largely savoury style, with a clean finish of good length. It’s the kind of wine that’s easy to go glass to glass with. Like it.

Montsablé Chardonnay 2016

Bob Campbell MW

"Rich, creamy chardonnay with strong peach, ginger and bran biscuit flavour. It has a slightly rustic texture, although it’s a wine that will appeal to devotees of the “big & buttery” style. Offers value at this price"
